Tales of Margaret Hellingser
Chapter 2

After a few bewildered seconds in which they just stared in each other's eyes, Margaret had the stupidest yet somehow smartest reaction one could have in that situation; she latched onto the animal's snout, keeping it closed.

Drake's jaws were very powerful when clamping down, but not very strong when it came to opening their mouth. No acid could come out of its mouth that way, and she was out of arm, sort of.

There still were the claws but thankfully the front legs of the drake were too short to properly reach her. That was when she screamed like a mad woman when the beast started shaking its head furiously, trying to pray her off.

Thankfully her dog jumped in at that time, proudly carrying her gears. She grabbed a dagger off his mouth, bracing herself for one more shake, before quickly plunging it right behind the beast's head.

Finally, after a few gurgling sounds, it collapsed. She managed to take her dagger back out of its head with a little struggle, wincing a bit at the sight of the blood all over it, before wiping it quickly on a bush's leaves.

She looked at the drake some, quickly gathering a few scales, teeth and two vials of acid (very carefully not to burn herself on it).

That done, she called her dog over, giving him quite a nice scratch under his ears and a kiss on top of his head before getting to walking again.

It took her a few days to get out of the marshes, mostly filled with a bit of hunting (who knew those sort of geckos tasted so good?)) and a bit of fighting random monsters and ghosts (though no more drakes thankfully),

she'd reached her current spot in the tavern.

After cutting bits of her meat off to give to her dog, who gobbled it down happily with a small "boof" (the kind that isn't exactly a full out bark yet still can be heard),The young adventurer nunchalently took out the scales

and tooth while digging in her bag to find her coin purse.

That attracted some odd stares from the men next to her, who didn't comment though they looked a little more humbled. So maybe her tale wasn't entirely false then, but there was no way they'd admit to being wrong.

They turned their back to her, this time much quieter in their discussion as a smug smile made its way on her face. She put her glorious loot back in her bag before paying the lady behind the counter.

"Could I get a room too please? I'm pretty tired after all this walking in the marshes..."
She glanced toward the men but got no more reaction, though the barmaid gave her a small amused smile.

The transaction didn't take too long and finally she had her own room, a small quaint room on the upper floor of the inn. There wasn't much in there really, but it was enough for her.

First of all, the bed was comfortable with a nice warm blanket, and deep pillows that looked perfect to sleep on. There didn't seem to be any bedbugs, which was a rare thing to find but still far too common for her.

Next to the bed was a small table with a candle on it, as well as a few books. Those apparently belonged to a previous guest, who didn't bother taking them and now stayed there to provide entertainment if needed.

Finally in the opposite corner was another small table with what she needed to wash herself or take care of more basic needs, as well as a small wardrobe where she quickly dropped her bag.

After getting rid of her heavy boot and massaging her sore feet some, she quickly undressed down to her underwears before slipping under the blanket.

She shifted all the way against the wall, her back to it, before lifting the blanket to let her dog come on the bed with her, curling up around Knight who looked fairly pleased with those sleeping arrangement (and took up most of the bed, the bastard).

It took only a few minutes after she took the light off the candle before the both of them fell asleep.
