I currently am a Private of 8 Squadron. 3rd Platoon and 76 Regiment. In other words I was in the Vindex Rangers. I was a fresh recruit or a "New tooth" We were getting deployed into battle against the rebels but instead of nervous I was excited.

We were deployed 10 minutes later we were ambushed by .50 Cals we were pounded on the side. The car I was in was flipped and I saw my comrades and friends ripped apart.t

I heard rumbling and explosions a faint sound rung in my ear as I got out of the car, gunfire was shot at my feet. I grab my M-16 off the floor and run to the closest cover I could find. The floor was all pounded with .50 Cal bullets smoke and dust rose

into the air like a swarm of bees and I knew I was a dead man. Then I saw soldiers running toward the gunfire and taking down a Rebel gunner. I looked to my left and I saw a heavy soldier with an RPG take down another gunner I was given hope, and a second

chance. I got out of cover and ran out to the open while shooting and reloading. I captured a prisoner but something was strange..... he was smiling. He appeared very fat but when we were about to load him he took off his jacket and exploded.

The shrapnel blew into my arm and caused heavy bleeding. My friends and squad were all just killed by a kamikaze soldier. My body ached in pain it felt like thousands of needles sticking through my leg. I knew if I didnt get back to base I was goner.

I ran sideways into the jungle after around 10 minutes I heard gunshots. That's when I knew they were killing the survivors. I became a soldier who was AWOL.
My whole squad was dead all my comrades were dead. I was a coward that went AWOL.

After 3 hours of tiring work I finally got to base. My written pages about the escape were covered in mud and was covered with my own blood. I got there but as I was about to speak they swiftly debriefed me and sent me to the hospital. I wasnt talking.

I finally got the chance to write, all my arms were sore. Turns out the shrapnel and injuries were infected so I almost died from the sickness. They aided me everywhere, walking, eating and using the toilet.

I was recovering slowly but atleast I was recovering. While taking my medication I tried forgeting that I went AWOL. I keep dreaming of my comrades getting shot and killed. The only thing I told the general was that my whole squad was killed.
