Once upon a time, there was a young girl who lived in a small cottage in the woods with her older sister and parents. The little girl was sent to do housework every day. She was never allowed to explore or play in the wood, for her mother feared of the

dangerous creatures that lurked there in the night.
One evening, the little girl asked her mother, "Mama, may I go out this eve to explore the wood?"
And just like usual, her mother responded; "No, little daughter, it is far too dangerous and scary for a

girl like you."
That night, the little girl thought about what her mother said to her.
Why was is too scary for girls?
How were girls different from the little boys in the town who played in the wood all night long?
Why couldn't little girls do what

the little boys could?
And then a thought came to her.
She could change it.
She could be the little girl that would go to the wood and explore.
So the next day, the packed food and set off on her journey to the wood. Her mother was right. It was scary. It

was dark. It was cold. The wolves howled in the midst of the night. The crickets chirped and the leaves of the trees rustled in the strong wind.
She thought that it may be best to come home. But no. She had to make a change. She had to be the little girl

that could spend a night in the wood. She had to prove her mother wrong.
She had to show all of the other little girls that they, too, could go into the wood!
So she found a soft patch of grass under a tree and fell asleep. She slept all night long, and

woke up to the sun on her face.
She made it. So she gathered up her things, and began her trek home. The wind was no longer scary, and she saw that the wolves were kind as so was the warm sun around her.
Maybe the only reason the wood seemed so scary

was because everybody said it would be.
When the little girl finally came home, her mother greeted her at the door.
"My little girl! Where were you all night long? We were looking for you!"
The little girl gathered her words and began

to tell her mother of the night she spent in the woods.
"It's not only for boys. It's not scary at all, really. And if boys can be brave enough to go there then girls can too!"
She told this to all of her friends, to her sister, to every person in the

town that she lived in.
The word was out, and to this day the little girl taught us the lesson that girls and boys can do the same thing.
(Maybe girls do it better!)
